Well, today's my first match of my 5th season with Cookley Cricket Club, my local village side. I'm meeting up with the team and travelling to Spring Hill.

Training so far this year has been good and I'm confident going into the first match. Perhaps I'll be able to come back with a bigger smile on my face than the bruises that I'll inevitably get over the coming year.

Well, game 1 out of the way - we lost, but only a pre-season friendly. I didn't bowl today, due to so much depth. I dropped a sharp catch at slip, but then with the light fading, I managed to start batting well - 8 runs from 4 balls, which came in the form of two crisp fours - 1 straight drive and one pull to backward square leg.

I got bowled in the end, but when the game is gone, I decided to see if my 'pick swinging' skills were up to anything.

Thanks - I'm batting better than I've been doing these past few years - I'm scoring more runs than bruises this year!
