Into the Darkness

Posted by Coop83 May. 13, 2009 @ 8:31 AM EDT

Back in January this year, I started getting together with a few friends on a Monday evening to socialise and play a few games. One such game was Werewolf, the Forsaken from White Wolf Game Studios.

Now that we've played this for roughly four months, we've gotten our gaming to a stop point and have switched games. At this point, I had made quite a few notes and in order not only to remember Gareth, my character, I decided to turn it into a story.

And so, the fan fiction was born: Into the Darkness

Have a look, see what you think and tell me if you could understand what on earth I was rambling about.

Now, I'd like to thank my friends Gilly and Simon for allowing us into their home to wreak havoc with the game of Werewolf, since January 2009. It was Gilly's idea in the first place, so it's partially her fault :P Thanks again to Gilly, for coming up with such a plot that has inspired me to create Gareth and actually do something more than just role play this time. To Simon, Becky and Andrea, for providing more than your fair share of input into the situations, so that I can see just what needed to be done to make my actions fit how I felt they should. My only hope is that my poetic licence still makes this memorable to you four, as you were there from the start.

So what are you waiting for? Sit down, grab a brew and step into the World of Darkness

Great! I'll be looking forward to hearing what you think of it :)

I don't read much, but I know what I like. And that was a very good read.

Your beginning was very well thought out; got into the story quickly, but still offered a clear backstory to follow and allowing the reader to learn about the protagonist.
The descriptions were well done, and your portrayed new characters clearly.

I had a feeling it was loosely based on a game, but I thought it was just me and my obsession with computer games! Aspects such as the packs and the many variety of Uratha (I think that's what they are called) reminded me of games, and that made me more interested. Learning about each auspice and tribe made the world you created seem a lot more... full; complete. You made it feel as though there were two worlds, as opposed to one being a small extension of another.

I found it slightly difficult to follow the names of the several auspices, but I'm sure I'll get used to them as each one becomes more engaged in the storyline. And I shall be looking forward to that.

So, do you consider yourself Ithaeur? =P

May. 14, 2009 | 6:33 AM Coop83 responds:

Yes, Gareth is very much one of them, but when we created the characters, I wanted to be a spiritual type. Trust me, further chapters will show why this is so.

It's based on the game Werewolf, The Forsaken, which is a game that I've been playing for roughly 4 months now. I've played the previous version from White Wolf, which was Werewolf, The Apocalypse. I think that the games developers have now seen that their efforts were slightly off the mark and have adjusted the game accordingly.

At least I'm enjoying it :P

You play Werewolf? You should also try Vampire and/or Hunter the Reckoning (both are from White Wolf as well and use almost the same rules). Personally I found those more interesting than Werewolf, but on the other hand I played the latter only on one occasion. ^^

The story... wow, pretty long. Had a quick glance at it, the introduction is very nice and with that you are already halfway there. In my opinion the introduction of a story is the most important part. If it is boring many readers may not read the rest of the story. But if it is interesting the reader wants to read the rest of the story, too even though the rest might be only half as good as the introduction.

Already the very first sentence "I guess you could say that I'm not really what my parents wanted me to be." is very good and leaves much room for interpretation. It foreshadows that SOMETHING is happening later in the story, but it doesn't tell us WHAT EXACTLY that something might be. So, already with the very first sentence you are attracting interest.

Hopefully I find the time to read more of the story than only the introduction. :)

May. 14, 2009 | 1:41 PM Coop83 responds:

I've played Vampire the Requiem and Vampire the Masquerade before and both are quite enjoyable. I would say that Werewolf was always more my style, to be honest.

Regarding the first line, I only meant that Gareth's parents wanted him to be a man that could take over the farm from his dad, then he became a postman after his brother's demise.

Perhaps I'll be able to get some vocal samples for Gareth up there in the Audio portal later tonight / at some point tomorrow.

"I can't wait to meet Michael!" Okay, it's not quite right, since I've already met you, but i'm too nice to refer to you as "You old shit" or "You old gay!" :P

Well, I have to show my appreciation for one of the best artists on Newgrounds :) I'll be attaching a new tank patch to it and wearing it to the August London meet, so there will be pics if you can't make it this time

On a unrelated note I am going for 59K tomorrow. Unless it is hot outside. You would be going for it at all.

My dear old fruit, we both know that you cannot keep this pace up forever.

I'll see you when I pass you ;)

Congrats on the level-up. The broad sword is one of my all-time favorites, so I'm natrually quite envious. :P
I wouldn't mind reading some of that fan fic of yours, if I get the time. Good luck on the writing contest, too. :)

Jun. 10, 2009 | 8:38 AM Coop83 responds:

Well, there are good and bad points to entering the writing contest - I spend less time writing the fanfic.

You'll get to the sword soon enough ;)

Thanks - I'm working on Chapter one in the free time I get until the next game sessions start in Werewolf - we're playing a different game at present, but I hope to catch up with the game before we start once more.

Fun, isn't it?

Jun. 25, 2009 | 11:44 AM Coop83 responds:

What do you think of the audio sample of it? I know the mic wasn't that good quality, but I'm hoping that I can improve on it in order to become a voice artist at some point.

Jun. 25, 2009 | 12:08 PM DriftLV1 says:

Why did you ban me from reviewing? Can you explain specifically what was wrong with it? I'm telling him what was wrong with his movie and how he should react when someone gives him a low score.

And over and over, this guy has flagged my reviews and most of them were fine, but for some fucking reason, you freaking delete them and make M-Bot give me a warning.

I have done nothing wrong and you seem to harass me. I'm not argueing with Hank66, i'm telling him whats wrong with his movies.

Wade and everyone else is going to here hell from me and most of my friends because of you giving me some stupid ban message.

Thanks alot, jerk.

Jun. 25, 2009 | 2:04 PM Coop83 responds:

You were getting off topic - responding to how the author has a problem with you and your reviews. If this continues, I will ban you for longer.

If you have a problem with his behaviour, speak to him about it via PM.

Don't air your dirty laundry in public.

Jul. 9, 2009 | 11:27 AM Coop83 responds:

Mostly recorded - I'm in discussions with the director and I'm getting something that we both like produced. Hopefully, we're going to get somewhere where it's compatible over the next few days :)

Jul. 29, 2009 | 10:21 AM Cocoon says:

I realise you are a huge loser and defending shitty abstract pixel awards means a lot to you. But many people who reviewed BasketBall (whatever it was called) were legit reviewers.
Seriously get a life you massive fucking faggot and that goes for every one of your mod clan who got their position from a high battling average.

Jul. 29, 2009 | 11:02 AM Coop83 responds:

I'd like to point out that my moderator position never arose from a high batting average - I don't actually have one.

The moderator position came around from the respect that I have gained over the years from the Newgrounds community. Deleting of reviews is a decision that is not taken lightly, each one is considered as to what is wrong with it, plus mitigating circumstances that may allow the review to stay.

Since you're not banned at the moment, feel free to leave a review for the submission again, unless of course it has been deleted.

Jul. 31, 2009 | 2:05 PM jakenator85 says:

I think you're a good review mod!

Jul. 31, 2009 | 3:14 PM Coop83 responds:

Thanks, what do you think of my writing abilities?

Aug. 2, 2009 | 6:53 PM SupraAddict says:

Not bad at all. It was compelling enough for me to read the first paragrapgh of that huge comic(?)

Aug. 2, 2009 | 6:58 PM Coop83 responds:

The first paragraph? Well, it's a start at least. Perhaps I can convince you to read a little more of the story that I'm releasing in a few days time.

Stay tuned to the stats - something big is about to happen ;)
